萧凡：臣以为，教化之于刑法，刑法轻而教化重，舍所重而急所轻，岂不谬哉，且教化所恃以为治，刑法所以助治也，今废所恃而独立其所助，非所以致太平也。
陈牧：先生之言是也，寡人谨受教。

萧凡：臣以为，亡国之主，必自骄，必轻物，自骄则简士，自智则专独，轻物则无备，无备召祸，专独位危，简士壅塞，欲无壅塞必礼士，欲位无危必得众，欲无召祸必完备，三者人君之大经也，昔者楚庄王谋事而当，有大功，退朝而有忧色，今大王之势不及楚王，而有骄矜之色，非社稷之福也。
陈牧：非先生之言，寡人几不悟也，寡人知过矣。
